2.4. You are responsible for meeting any requirements of a Course, such as submitting work and participating in online sessions, tests and assessments. Failure to meet the requirements may result in you not completing the Course or failing the Course. We do not accept any responsibility or liability resulting from you failing to comply with the requirements of the Course.

5.1. We may update the Website from time to time, and may change the content at any time. However, please note that any of the content on the Website may be out of date at any given time, and we are under no obligation to update it.
5.2. We do not guarantee that the Website, or any content on it, will be free from errors or omissions.
6. Accessing the Website
6.1. General access to the Website is free of charge, except for courses which may be subject to a separate charge and terms of purchase.
6.2. We do not guarantee that the Website, or any content on it, will always be available or be uninterrupted. Access to the Website is permitted on a temporary basis. We may suspend, withdraw, discontinue or change all or any part of the Website without notice. We will not be liable to you if for any reason the Website is unavailable at any time or for any period.
6.3. You are responsible for making all arrangements necessary for you to have access to the Website.
7. Use of the Website by minors
7.1. The use of the Website by a minor is subject to the consent of their parent or guardian. We advise parents who permit their children to use the Website that it is important that they communicate with their children about their safety online. Minors who are using the Board should be made aware of the potential risks to them and of their obligation to comply with these terms when using the Website.
7.2. We will do our best to assess any possible risks to minors from third parties when they use the Website, and we will decide in each case whether it is appropriate to use moderation of the relevant service (including what kind of moderation to use) in the light of those risks.
8. Your account and password
8.1. If you choose, or you are provided with, a user identification code, password or any other piece of information as part of our security procedures, you must treat such information as confidential. You must not disclose it to any third party. You will be responsible for any unauthorised use of your account or your password.
8.3. If you know or suspect that anyone other than you knows your user identification code or password, you must promptly notify us using the Contact Us page.
8.4. You will take reasonable care to ensure that the information you supply about yourself and all Users will be complete and accurate.
8.5. Please ensure that the information you provide relates to you and not to any other person.
9. Intellectual property rights
9.1. We are the owner or the licensee of all intellectual property rights in the Website, and in the material published on it. Those works are protected by copyright laws and treaties around the world. All such rights are reserved.
9.2. You may print off one copy, and may download extracts, of any page(s) from the Website for your personal use and you may draw the attention of others within your organisation to content posted on the Website.
9.3. You must not modify the paper or digital copies of any materials you have printed off or downloaded in any way, and you must not use any illustrations, photographs, video or audio sequences or any graphics separately from any accompanying text.
9.4. Our status (and that of any identified contributors) as the authors of content on the Website must always be acknowledged.

11.5. If you are a consumer user, please note that we only provide the Website for domestic and private use. 11.8. Different limitations and exclusions of liability will apply to liability arising as a result of the supply of any Courses to you, which will be set out in our Terms and conditions of supply.
12. Uploading content to the Website
12.1. Whenever you make use of a feature that allows you to upload content to the Website or to make contact with other users of the Website (User Generated Content), you must comply with the content standards set out in our Acceptable Use Policy.
12.2. Any and all intellectual property rights in content that you upload to the Website shall remain vested in you. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty free, perpetual, sub-licensable right to use, access, copy, adapt, modify, distribute and disclose to third parties that intellectual property for any purpose. You also grant other individuals accessing the Website a right to copy, view and use your User Generated Content for the purposes of private study in connection with their use of the Website and/or participation in a course or similar study provided by us.
12.3. You hereby warrant that:
12.3.1. all User Generated Content is and will be your original work and has not been and will not be copied wholly or substantially from any other work or material or any other source;
12.3.2. you are the sole legal and beneficial owner of the rights in the User Generated Content;
12.3.3. you have not transferred or licensed and will not transfer or license any of the rights in User Generated Content in a manner which would prevent the exercise by us of the licence granted in this clause 11;
12.3.4. your rights in the User Generated Content are not subject to any other interest, such as a security interest, option, mortgage, charge or lien;
12.3.5. you are unaware (having carried out reasonable and diligent enquiries) of any infringement, or likely infringement of, any of the rights in the User Generated Content;
12.3.6. so far as you are aware (having carried out reasonable and diligent enquiries) the exploitation of the rights in User Generated Content will not infringe the rights of any third party;
12.3.7.the User Generated Content complies with the content standards in the Acceptable Use Policy.
12.4. You will be liable to us and indemnify us for any breach of the warranties contained in clause 11.3. If you are a consumer user, this means you will be responsible for any loss or damage we suffer as a result of your breach of any of those warranties.
12.5. Any content you upload to the Website will be considered non-confidential and non-proprietary.
12.6. We also have the right to disclose your identity to any third party who is claiming that any content posted or uploaded by you to the Website constitutes a violation of their intellectual property rights, or of their right to privacy or other legal right.
12.7. We will not be responsible, or liable to any third party, for the content or accuracy of any content posted by you or any other user of the Website.

This acceptable use policy sets out the terms between you and us under which you may access our website https://extend.ucl.ac.uk/ (Website). This acceptable use policy applies to all users of, and visitors to, the Website.
Your use of the Website means that you accept, and agree to abide by, all the policies in this acceptable use policy, which supplement our Terms of Website Use.

4. Suspension and termination
4.1. We will determine, in our discretion, whether there has been a breach of this acceptable use policy through your use of the Website. When a breach of this policy has occurred, we may take such action as we deem appropriate.
4.2. Failure to comply with this acceptable use policy constitutes a material breach of the Terms of Website Use upon which you are permitted to use the Website, and may result in our taking all or any of the following actions:
4.2.1. immediate, temporary or permanent withdrawal of your right to use the Website.
4.2.2. immediate, temporary or permanent removal of any posting or material uploaded by you to the Website.
4.2.3. issue of a warning to you.
4.2.4. legal proceedings against you for reimbursement of all costs on an indemnity basis (including, but not limited to, reasonable administrative and legal costs) resulting from the breach.

Who are we?UCL Extend is UCL’s public-facing learning environment for delivery of non-credit bearing short courses for CPD, executive education, and outreach purposes. The service is provided by the UCL Digital Education team in collaboration with UCL Short Courses and other teams across the university. The platform is accessible to UCL staff and students in addition to members of the public, although individual courses limit access based on fees or pre-requisites and are thus not open to all platform users by default.
What information is being collected from you?Upon account creation and acceptance of the Terms of Website Use and Acceptable Use Policy, UCL Extend will collect:
- Background information. Upon registration this includes your name and email address, but may also span other information as volunteered by you, e.g. country or city;
- Any further detail you choose to add to your user profile, e.g. user preferences, a profile image, interests, or social media account names;
- Details about the courses you are enrolled on;
- Details of your activity within courses including dates and times, e.g. logins, resources viewed, and use of specific learning activities.
How will the information be used?We may use your information to:
- Create your unique user account and process enrolment(s) on your requested course(s);
- Enable tutors to make contact with you as part of a course learning experience;
- Enable tutors to access learner engagement information at both course and individual student levels;
- Deliver improvements to the UCL Extend service;
- Notify you of changes to the UCL Extend service.
Who has access to your information?Your information will not be sold or rented to any third parties, or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. We will not make any further contact with you for marketing or research purposes unless you separately and explicitly offer your consent for us to do so.
Only those members of staff who are designated as tutors within a UCL Extend course can access information relating to your use of or engagement with materials.
We work with third party service providers to inform improvements to the platform or provide access to additional learning-focused tools that may form part of a course learning experience. These include Google Analytics, Blackboard Collaborate, Turnitin, and H5P. Such services may record additional information, such as your IP address and location. In most cases these services will act as the controller of your data and it is therefore advised that you consult their privacy policies (see above links) for further information.
How is the information kept secure?The UCL Extend service is provided to UCL via an external hosting company, Catalyst IT Europe. Catalyst IT Europe acts in a ‘data processor’ capacity for UCL, and any personal information held by their database servers is in accordance with Article 28 of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU Regulation 2016/679; the 'GDPR'). This information will be not be accessed or used unnecessarily, and appropriate security precautions are employed to ensure that the information is not available to any unauthorised person or organisation. No personal data will be transferred outside of the European Economic Area without the written consent of UCL.
UCL acts in a ‘data controller’ capacity for the platform, and is responsible for informing users of how information is stored and used in addition to reporting any data storage and reporting issues. Any queries relating to data protection can be directed to email@example.com.
How long do we retain your information?
All accounts will be permanently deleted after 3 years of inactivity. If you wish to keep your account your account you can reset the countdown by logging into your account again. An automatic message will be sent out to users whose accounts are about to be deleted 1 month in advance.
Accounts can also be deleted upon request.
